Cofounders Russ Russ Spitkovsky and Matt Barteluce along with other contributors of Carrier Pigeon will visit SVA Library West to talk about how and why they started the artist-run magazine. Since 2010, they have produced 17 issues giving the creative control to it’s writers, illustrators, fine artists and designers. Russ and Matt will discuss their reasons for starting this publication, how they raise funds for their endeavors and how it all lead to the start of a publishing house and 501c3 non profit art organization centered around an art residency program.
Russ Spitkovsky’s artwork has been included in numerous national and international publications and exhibitions. He is one of the founders of Carrier Pigeon and is currently editor in chief and contributor of the publication. Matt Barteluce is a New Jersey native and amateur ufologist. He is an artist, illustrator and graphic designer who received his BFA in 2003 from Maryland Institute College of Art and his MFA in 2010 at the School of Visual Arts. Until 2014 he worked as an art director for Young & Rubicam Group, a worldwide advertising agency. During that time he co-founded 'Carrier Pigeon', a quarterly fine art and literature magazine with a group of peers. He is currently director of Guttenberg Arts, a 501c3 non profit arts organization. As Guttenberg Arts director he acts as an advocate for artists helping them achieve their fullest potential.
